The New England Patriots selected rookie quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and it sounds like he is already impressing veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who he will be learning from with the Patriots this year.
During a press conference this week, Jacoby Brissett expressed a willingness to mentor the young quarterback as he had sent a clear message to Drake Maye about just ow much talent and potential he thinks he has.
“He’s got a lot of talent. He can make all the throws. He wants to learn football. He wants to get better,” Brissett said, via Mark Daniels of MassLive.com. “That’s what you want. Not only in your quarterback but anybody on the team. I’m excited to work with him.”
Brissett pointed out that Maye is actually younger than he was when he entered the league and tried to learn everything he could behind Tom Brady.
“He’s 21. I was 23,” Brissett said. “He’s already texting me about plays, ‘how do I think about this?’ and cadence, and stuff like that — the little nuances of being in this position.”
We’ll have to see just how Maye is able to develop and perform for the Patriots this season and beyond.
