The Green Bay Packers have struggled mightily in the kicking game, but it doesn’t sound like they’re going to make any changes at the placekicker position just yet.
Packers kicker Brayden Narveson has not performed the way he would have liked this season. He is the only kicker in the league to miss four field goals this season – only one other kicker has even missed three – and he is the only kicker in the entire league to miss a kick shorter than 40 yards.
Needless to say, it’s a pretty brutal situation for the Packers, but head coach Matt LaFleur is standing by his player.
During his press conference after the team’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, LaFleur had a pretty clear message of support for Narveson.
“I got a lot of confidence in Brayden,” LaFleur said in his postgame press conference. “I do. I think that, you know, it’s tough. We all want the results. I think he’s a young guy and a lot of times with young kickers that you go through this. Certainly, I think that he’s, I know that he’s disappointed. I’ve still got a lot of belief in him.
“I’ve seen it in practice. I told you guys from Day One, the day he got here, and just have seen his ability. So, it’s just part of it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t his day, but I got a lot of confidence and wouldn’t blink if we have to put him in another situation.”
We’ll have to see whether or not Narveson can improve as the season goes on.
If he continues to struggle, it’s likely the team will make a move to replace him.
