Ever since he was selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, David Bakhtiari has been a starter for the Green Bay Packers. But as the team looks to create valuable salary cap space, it sounds like there’s a good chance the team could choose to part ways with him this offseason.
As Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk points out, the Green Bay Packers could save a lot of salary cap space if they choose to cut David Bakhtiari before the start of the new league year, which is a move that would make sense, especially considering the amount of time he has missed due to injuries the past few seasons.
“Bakhtiari is set to have a cap number of more than $40 million, which would be a lot even if he had not missed 38 of the team’s last 51 regular season games because of knee issues. Cutting him would open up more than $20 million in cap space, but General Manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters on Tuesday that the team has not made a decision about Bakhtiari yet.
Obviously, Baakhtiari has been an important part of the team for the past decade, but parting ways with him could be in Green Bay’s best interest going forward.
