Giants could make quarterback move

The Giants quarterback situation has largely been a two-man show for much of the offseason, with both Drew Lock and Daniel Jones vying for the starting position for the upcoming 2024-25 season. But now, a new name could be brought in by Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll after the team’s opening preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

In Thursday’s season opener, Lock suffered a hip injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the game. And while Schoen said after the game that Lock could have returned from the injury if needed in the game, that doesn’t mean that Lock is totally in the clear.

According to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, it “could be longer” than a “couple of days” until Lock is ready to return to the field. This could lead to the Giants bringing in another quarterback for the team’s second preseason game against the Houston Texans next week if Lock is still feeling the effects of the injury.

As for who could potentially come into the mix in New York, the team did just release former CFL standout Nathan Rourke last month. So he could potentially find his way back onto the team unless the organization wanted to go in a different direction entirely.

Regardless, this doesn’t led well to Lock potentially earning the starting job in New York, as he likely would have needed an excellent preseason if he was going to have any chance to supplant long-time starter Daniel Jones.
