The New York Giants rounded up a coach from across the hall.
New York Jets assistant Marquand Manuel will now work for Big Blue. Manuel leaves the Jets after four seasons under previous head coach Robert Saleh, who the team fired during the season.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the news that Manuel will now coach the Giants’ staff as their defensive backs coach.
“The Giants are hiring veteran NFL coach Marquand Manuel as their defensive backs coach,” Fowler wrote in a post on X.
Manuel is a former NFL defensive back who starred with the Miami Hurricanes in college. Manuel was a member of the famed 2001 Hurricanes team that won the National Championship and sent a boatload of players, himself included, to the league. He played for eight seasons from 2002-09.
Former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll hired Manuel in 2012 as an assistant special teams coordinator. Since then he’s worked his way up the ladder and has continued that upward ascent.
From 2017-18, Manuel served at his highest position, a defensive coordinator under Dan Quinn with the Atlanta Falcons. Manuel was on staff in Atlanta dating back to 2015, serving on staff for Atlanta’s Super Bowl team in 2016.
The Giants are hoping for a turnaround after a disastrous 2024. New York cut bait with Daniel Jones and now take aim at a new future. This hire represents that in a way, so we’ll see how things pan out.
