The NFL offseason has already begun for most franchises, as only eight teams are still in the playoffs battling it out for Super Bowl rings. That means that the rest of the league has begun planning for the future and trying to get in position to make their own postseason runs.

As always, the NFL offseason this year is full of turnover in attrition not only for rosters but for coaches and front office roles as well. Now, the New York Giants are reluctantly letting one of their own leave the franchise, according to one prominent NFL insider.

“The (Giants) are allowing executive advisor to the GM Ryan Cowden out of his current deal and he is expected to join the (Patriots) front office under Eliot Wolf, sources tell me and (Ian Rapoport). Nothing finalized but the former (Titans) exec will soon reunite with Mike Vrabel,” reported Mike Garfolo on Tuesday.

Rapoport then followed up with reporting of his own.

Not an easy decision for the #Giants, but because they value Ryan Cowden, they didn’t want to stop him from pursuing this opportunity. A classy way to handle it and a nice addition to Eliot Wolf’s personnel department,” he tweeted.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Schoen definitely trying to regain some credibility after the Mccloud comments. Better way to have done this would have been to fire Schoen and hire him as GM,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“This feels like a PR move for the giants after all the negative reports coming out of that regime,” added one fan.

“Perhaps he can hear the orchestra playing in deck and he’s getting out of dodge before the flairs get fired,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see what other moves the Giants make this offseason.
