It wasn’t very long ago that it seemed like a foregone conclusion that former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders would be selected first overall by the New York Giants first overall in the upcoming NFL draft. Now that almost seems like a distant memory.

The Giants no longer possess the first pick as things stand today, and Sanders had one of the worst performances of his career in his bowl game against the BYU Cougars.

To make matters worse for Sanders, scouts in the NFL appear to have soured on him.

“Went back and watched the tape this morning—Shedeur Sanders melted down like a snowman against No. 17 BYU. Can’t even imagine how timid and how overwhelmed he will look against the speed and complexity of the NFL,” said former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly, according to JPAFootball, an NFL-centric Twitter account.

Fans reacted to Kelly’s remarks on social media.

“Ah yes… he melted down in a meaningless game…. You guys fail to realize the NFL is the ultimate goal. Someone like him has been raised to reach that ultimate goal. His career won’t even start until the NFL. This was just for show. He cares about college football about as much as you care about women’s polo. It was just to get eyes on him,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“A Jets Scout?????? Probably said Zach Wilson was The Next Namath. That’s why he has FORMER next to his name,” another fan added.

“People will probably say it’s the Jets scout but I think he is spot on. But someone will draft the hype for sure early. He would be best sitting for years behind a pro to be the replacement,” one fan added.

“Daniel Kelly also had Spencer Rattler as QB1 of this years class so I’d take anything he says with a grain of salt,” someone else wrote.

“Ah, a former Jet’s scout lol take his word for it. Did he take into consideration Sanders will have a run game for the 1st time & NFL linemen,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Sander can prove Kelly wrong.
