Andrew Hawkins, Nate Burleson, Miles Austin
Old Teams: Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys
New Team: Cleveland Browns
The average fan likely missed the Browns’ acquisitions of Miles Austin, Nate Burleson and Andrew Hawkins amid the Josh Gordon fiasco and Johnny Manziel party.
It would surprising to see Josh Gordon’s one-year suspension reduced and flat out mind-boggling if he played more than eight games in 2014, making him irrelevant in non-keeper or dynasty leagues. Even in a keeper league, do not look Gordon’s direction until the 7th round or lower, unless you have a pick or two to burn.
The loss of Gordon leaves three new faces manning the top three slots for Brian Hoyer and Manziel and while the trio brings a combined 22 seasons of experience to Cleveland, the passing game is well beyond unpredictable.
Advice? Take a late-round flier on Austin (12-15th round) but avoid Burleson and Hawkins until the last preseason games finish up or even until Week 1. There is potential of a 1,000-yard season but it is impossible to known which one will get it.
