The status of Jalen Hurts is still in doubt heading into this weekend. So, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to make a move to set up an insurance policy.
The Eagles signed quarterback Ian Book on Thursday morning. Book, a former Notre Dame product, will join the team and head to the practice squad.
Philly announced their latest quarterback move with a post on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.
“We have signed QB Ian Book,” the Eagles noted in the post.

Philly is in a good spot heading towards the final part of the season. That makes the Hurts injury sting quite a bit. Philly clinched a playoff berth, but still need to lock up the division.
The 10-5 Washington Commanders continue to give them push with two games remaining this season. There’s a two-game difference between the two, so everything that happens now will be pivotal.
The Eagles are likely to start Kenny Pickett again this weekend if Hurts can’t go. Pickett has fared only moderately well at the NFL level. So, in other words, there might be some trepidation from Eagles fans. It might be best to lean on running back Saquon Barkley, who’s emerged as a significant MVP candidate this year.
There were plenty of reactions to the Eagles’ move on Thursday.
“Not looking good for Hurts Sunday,” NBC Philadelphia’s Tom Ignudo said.
“This feels like a bad sign for Jalen Hurts’ chances to play this week,” one fan noted.
One other fan feels it’s sealed up already.
