United States President Donald Trump is set to make history this weekend.
Donald Trump is already one of the most iconic – and also controversial – presidents in the history of the United States, and he’s taking another step into the history books this week.
Throughout the 59 iterations of the Super Bowl, a sitting United States president has never before attended the game. But according to Front Office Sports, Donald Trump is going to change that this week as he is set to attend the game.
“Donald Trump will become the first sitting U.S. president to attend the Super Bowl. Trump will be going to New Orleans on Sunday as a guest of Saints owner Gayle Benson,” Front Office Sports said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
As Front Office Sports points out, Trump had a rather tumultuous relationship with the NFL during his first presidential term.
“He criticized the league, its players, and commissioner Roger Goodell in 2016 and years into his first administration as players kneeling during the national anthem roiled the league; in 2018, he suggested that players who kneel should leave the country,” Front Office Sports wrote.
Additionally, the Philadelphia Eagles were uninvited from visiting the White House following their 2018 Super Bowl victory after several players declined to attend the visit.
Obviously, Trump’s appearance at the game will add a bit more juice to an event that was already one of the biggest spectacles on the planet.
