The Detroit Lions currently hold the No. 29 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but it sounds like they are considering the possibility of trading down and out of the first round, even though the fans won’t love it.
During a recent interview, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes acknowledged it would be disappointing for Lions fans on draft night if the team ultimately didn’t make a selection in the first round, but he hopes that the fans would forgive them.
“That’s something that, we have to do the right thing for the organization,” Holmes said according to Christian Booher of SI.com. “If it makes sense and it lines up and it’s the right thing to do, then we have to do the right thing and so, say that happens, where the fans have been waiting there all night for this pick and we get an offer that we really can’t turn down, we’ve got to do the right thing. And hopefully our fans will forgive us. We won’t expect immediate forgiveness right then and there, but hopefully when the season starts and that player selected is out there, we can get past that. I totally understand that.”
We’ll have to see whether or not the Lions do ultimately decide to trade the pick.
