As the Detroit Lions prepare for the upcoming NFL season, it sounds like they will now be looking for a new starting kicker.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Detroit Lions starting kicker Michael Badgley has suffered a hamstring injury that will require surgery and will keep him sidelined for the entire 2024 season.
“Lions K Michael Badgley is out for the rest of the season after injuring his leg during practice Thursday and the team deciding to place him on injured reserve,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Last season, Badgley appeared in seven total games for the Lions – four regular season games and three in the playoffs for the Lions last season. In those games, he performed quite well, going 7-of-7 on field goals and 24-of-26 on extra points.
The Lions signed Jake Bates out of the UFL this offseason to compete with Badgley for the kicking job, but the team is expected to bring in other players to compete for the role after Badgley’s injury.
