The Detroit Lions obviously have no concerns about their starting quarterback position with Jared Goff returning after signing a contract extension with the team, but they do have a little bit of uncertainty behind him. And this offseason, they would like to feel a little more confident in their backup quarterback.
The Lions selected former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker in the third round of last year’s draft. Now, they want to get to the point where they are confident that he can run their offense.
“We need to feel like by the end of camp this guy can, he can run this offense,” Campbell said according to MLive.com. “He’s somebody we know that, man, we can play the game a certain way with him. We know he’s going to be able to process the information, he’s going to get us in the right play, and he’s somebody that we can — man, he’s going to keep the ship afloat. That’s it. We don’t need him to come in and win a game. You just want to feel like, ‘All right.’ So obviously he’s going to need to take another step up.”
Obviously, it sounds like the team would like to see Hooker take a big step this offseason. We’ll have to see if he can do that.
