Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending Achilles injury earlier this season, and it sounds like his recovery time might be a bit longer than expected.
On Monday, Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry announced during his press conference that Deshaun Watson had a setback in his injury recovery this week.
Berry revealed that Watson told doctors “something didn’t feel right” while doing his exit physical on Sunday.
While he didn’t have all that many details to share about the setback, he did indicate that it will extend his recovery time.
“We don’t have all the details and everything yet, but it will obviously extend the recovery process for him,” Berry said according to Pro Football Talk.
As for whether or not it will impact Watson’s ability to be ready to play by the start of the 2025 season, Berry said that it is “too early to tell.”
The Browns gave Watson the largest fully guaranteed contract in NFL history ahead of the 2022 season, but they have not received much out of that investment.
In his three seasons with the Browns, Watson has never been healthy for more than seven games in a season, playing six games in 2022 and 2023 as well as seven this season.
To make matters worse, when Watson has played, he has been one of the worst and most inconsistent quarterbacks in the league.
We’ll have to see what the Browns plan to do with Watson going forward.
