2024 was a rough season for Cleveland Browns quarterbacks. Deshaun Watson opened the season as the team’s starter but was one of the worst quarterbacks in the league when on the field.
Watson eventually ruptured his Achilles against the Cincinnati Bengals, ending his season and providing opportunities for Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Bailey Zappe to each have cracks at the starting job.
Unfortunately, one NFL insider has shared a brutal update on Watson’s status moving forward.
“Browns QB Deshaun Watson underwent surgery Thursday after tearing his Achilles again, and his status for the 2025 season is now in jeopardy, per league sources. Watson met Thursday with Dr. Robert Anderson before undergoing the surgery. Watson tore his right Achilles tendon Oct. 20, marking the second straight year his season ended because of injury,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“He will never play another down in Cleveland certifying this as the worst trade/contract in NFL history,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Oh geez, figured this was the ‘setback’ since it made such a buzz in the national media This almost guarantees the Browns go QB at 2 in the draft right ? Have to be ready to move on from Watson,” one fan added.
“Prob best to just claim this dude on the insurance policy and be done with him. In the Browns universe of bad things happening this guy just keeps topping the list,” another fan added.
“It’s unfortunate, but after this latest injury, Deshaun Watson should just retire. The Cleveland Browns would be better off,” another person wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if this ends Watson’s career.
