This offseason, the Baltimore Ravens signed veteran running back Derrick Henry in one of the more high-profile free agent signings during the offseason. And it sounds like they are planning to use him heavily this upcoming season.
During a press conference this week, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken suggested that the team would like to get Derrick Henry as many as 300 carries this upcoming season, using him particularly to close games when they have a lead as the clock expires.
“I know this: If [Henry] carries it 300 times, we’re having a helluva year,” Monken said. “It means we’re running it a lot. It means we’re up in games. We want him to finish, [and] we want him to be the closer.”
Of course, Monken also wants to make sure Henry stays healthy throughout the season, but he knows that Henry has been notoriously durable throughout his career.
“First and foremost, like every player, we want him to make it through the season. It’s a long season – 17 games,” Monken said. “So, we’ll see how that goes. I mean, he’s been so durable.”
Henry has topped 300 carries three times in his career. We’ll have to see if he does it again this upcoming season.
