The Baltimore Ravens are playing the Carolina Panthers this week and while inter-conference games usually don’t have much history behind them, this match-up will be much-anticipated due to one small, fiery wide receiver – Steve Smith.
After Smith was released by Carolina during the offseason, he made a promise to the Panthers:
I want to make sure that whatever team I go to, they’re going to get the best, in-shape 35-year-old guy they can get. If that happens to run through Bank of America Stadium, put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere.
And while the game won’t take place at Bank of America Stadium, Smith will get a chance to play his old team this week in Baltimore.
Having some fun with Smith’s colorful quote, Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams met with reporters and wore a pair of goggles as a reference to Smith’s “blood and guts” quote.
He later tweeted this to Steve Smith as well.
I'm ready for sunday @89SteveSmith…are you?! lol #bloodandguts #panthernation pic.twitter.com/0S8GeUJTxo

This game has way too much to live up to now. Still, one has to respect Williams for having the courage to tease his old teammate days before blood and guts fly everywhere.
