On April 26th, 2012, David Wilson was drafted by the New York Giants with the last pick of the first round of the NFL Draft. A little more than two years later, Wilson is most likely done playing in the NFL because of neck issues.
The running back, who played college ball at Virginia Tech, only appeared in 21 games in his short NFL career. In 2013, Wilson had surgery to repair a herniated disc. But, another injury suffered by Wilson in training camp last week will force Wilson to head to IR this season and will most likely end his NFL career.
Asked league source if Giants RB David Wilson’s career is over because of latest neck injury. His response: “Most likely.”

The Giants have released a statement on the matter, which includes Wilson’s diagnosis and some words from Wilson:
I don’t want anybody to feel sorry for me, or pity me. I lived my dream. A lot of people only get to dream their dream. I lived that dream. Now I have a chance to dream another dream and live that, too.”
Damn. While it’s worth noting the average career length of an NFL running back is 2.57 years, it’s still sad to see Wilson leave the game so soon.
