The Dallas Cowboys have announced that they’ve waived defensive end Michael Sam from their practice squad.
If you had kinda forgotten that Sam, the NFL’s first openly gay player, was on the Cowboys roster, that’s understandable. Drafted in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, Sam has been on the Cowboys practice squad since September 3rd. He never cracked the 53-man roster.
The Cowboys also announced that the they signed linebacker Troy Davis to take Sam’s place on the practice squad.
May the “distraction” narrative please be put to rest now. Sam has now been on two NFL squads and has really only been in the news wire when he’s been signed and waived.
