The NFL has a very strict gambling policy that has already resulted in several lengthy suspensions given to high-profile players. So when Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott made the mistake of calling himself a “gambling man” during a press conference, he was very quick to correct himself.
The slip-of-the-tongue from Dak Prescott happened when he was asked whether his uncertain contract situation with the Dallas Cowboys has raised the sense of urgency to win this year.
“It’s just the urgency that you should always have, to be honest,” Prescott said according to Pro Football Talk. “So, maybe guys who normally wouldn’t feel it, feel it. So, I don’t mind it. I’ve been in this position before. I’m a gambling man. Will gamble on myself and my guys.”
Of course, if Prescott literally did “gamble on myself and my guys,” that would likely earn him a lifetime ban from the league. But he quickly realized his mistake and made it clear that he was speaking figuratively, not literally.
“I could get a lot of [trouble] with that. Not that way,” Prescott clarified.
Obviously, Prescott wouldn’t get in trouble for simply saying that he was a “gambling man,” but it was still a pretty hilarious mistake.
