Dak Prescott Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

When Dak Prescott left Sunday night’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons with an apparent injury, it did not seem to be all that severe. But in a shocking turn of events, it now sounds like Prescott will be sidelined for at least a month.

During a Tuesday morning appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that it is likely the team will choose to place star quarterback Dak Prescott on Injured reserve.

“It’s likely we’ll IR him,” Jones said on the show.

If the Cowboys do indeed place Prescott on Injured Reserve, that would mean he will be sidelined for at least four weeks.

This move comes as a surprise as Prescott indicated that he did expect to play this week against the Philadelphia Eagles, indicating that it would take “a lot” to sideline him for the game against the division rivals.

However, it seems like the injury was worse than anticipated.

With Prescott sidelined for the next several weeks, the team has already announced that Cooper Rush will be the team’s quarterback in his place.

Rush has been the team’s backup quarterback for the past several seasons. He filled in for Prescott last season, leading the team to a string of victories before Prescott made his return.

Behind Rush is veteran quarterback Trey Lance, who has yet to appear in a game for the Cowboys.

We’ll have to see how the team performs with Prescott out.
