The Dallas Cowboys have been hard on the hunt for their new head coach after they shocked fans and pundits across the NFL by agreeing with former head coach Mike McCarthy to mutually part ways.
Almost instantly after the news broke, reports and rumors surrounding Deion Sanders leaving his post with the Colorado Buffaloes to take the job. However, while Sanders confirmed that he had contact with team owner and general manager Jerry Jones, nothing substantial seems to have come from the talks.
Now, Dallas appears to be closing in on their next head coach, according to one prominent Cowboys insider.
“Look for the Cowboys to cross the finish line on hiring Brian Schottenheimer no later than Friday, possibly today,” reported Clarence Hill Jr. on Friday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“If Brian Schottenheimer is any bit like Marty was. Expect the Cowboys to be more attention to detail oriented and physical, then was the case in recent years under McCarthy,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Before you guys send hate towards Jerry Jones remember you aren’t just attacking a HOF owner but, a father, a husband, and a Christian. Just because you guys don’t like this doesn’t take away what he’s brought to this team and we should look forward to seeing him lead our Cowboys,” one fan added.
“Just another reason why the Cowboys aren’t a desirable or attractive destination anymore!” another fan added.
“Excellent news for those of us who cannot stand the Cowboys!” one person wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see how Schottenheimer does in his first season at the helm.
