The Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback situation is solidified heading into the 2024-25 season. But after that, their future is not looking all that bright at the position due to the looming contract of Dak Prescott.
Prescott is entering what will be the final year of his deal. And despite the team adamantly saying this offseason that they would like to extend Prescott, nothing has come in terms of a new contract just yet.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones addressed Prescott’s looking contract situation yet again on Friday, making it clear that he views extending Prescott as “a priority”.
“Certainly, Dak (Prescott) is a priority in terms of his contract,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “Certainly, we’ll be taking a look at Trey (Lance). I know Trey will look at his situation as well, in terms of what his options are. I’m sure a lot of that will depend on how everything works out with Dak. Cooper (Rush) has been a strong backup here for us. But all of those things will just have to play out.”
It makes sense that Prescott is a “priority” for the Cowboys to extend. Prescott had a career year this past season, recording 4,516 passing yards and 36 passing touchdowns with only nine interceptions.
While the postseason success hasn’t been there for Prescott and the Cowboys, his individual numbers are hard to ignore when it comes time for negotiations to come around.
