Somewhere, Russell Wilson’s agent is cackling madly.
The San Francisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick have agreed to a contract extension which will ensure that the tattoo-ed bicep-loving quarterback gets paid. The new contract could be worth up to $126 million and will keep Kaepernick in San Francisco until 2020. As for guaranteed money (the only money that really matters in NFL contracts), Kaep is getting the most ever:
QB Guaranteed Money: Kaepernick 61M Brees 60M Rodgers 54M Bradford 50M Ryan 42M Stafford 41.5M Romo 40M

People may have doubted that Kaepernick was worth more than $20 million per season but it looks like he and the Niners feel differently. That’s a lot of money for a guy who is still looked at through the lens of his potential more than the ability he’s displayed so far but the NFL doesn’t have a ton of quality QBs to go around and Kaepernick has proven that he can at least manage the 49ers offense. With time and youth on his side, the Niners simply had to bite the bullet and pay Kaepernick what he wanted. It would not be worth jeopardizing the future of the team. After all, the 49ers’ back up plan would be Blaine Gabbert.
Now, the Niners have to find a way to solely play the Green Bay Packers for the next six years to make the most of their money.
