Colin Kaepernick has the dubious distinction of being the first player to be fined due to the NFL’s new inappropriate language rules. The NFL fined Kaepernick $11,025 after the league alleged that Kaepernick aimed a racial slur at Bears linebacker Lamarr Houston during the 49ers-Bears game on September 14th.
However, on Wednesday morning, the NFL reversed course. Kind of.
An arbiter reduced in half Colin Kaepernick’s fine for “inappropriate language” after determining there was no evidence Kaepernick used a racial slur or term, two sources told CSNBayArea.com on Wednesday.
The arbiter for the case did find that Kaepernick’s conduct warranted the fine as a “clear violation of the rule” but whatever conduct Kaepernick was fined for, it wasn’t for saying a racial slur. Kaepernick wasn’t told what specific conduct warranted the fine either.
Kaepernick was understandably miffed at still having to pay half the fine. Shortly after he received word that his fine was being reduced, but not revoked, Kaepernick posted an instagram photo to show his annoyance with the league arbiter’s ruling.
