For the first time since he was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Nick Chubb entered this offseason facing an uncertain future with the Cleveland Browns.
But it appears the star running back will be spending at least one more season in Cleveland, with Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reporting that the Browns have restructured Chubb’s contract for the 2024 campaign.
According to Rapoport, the Browns have lowered Chubb’s base salary of $11.775 million, with the four-time Pro Bowl selection having the ability to earn the money back via incentives. The Georgia product missed most of the 2023 campaign after suffering a torn MCL and damaged ACL in Cleveland’s Week 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Prior to his injury, Chubb had established himself as one of the NFL’s top running backs, rushing for 6,511 yards and 48 touchdowns during the first 77 regular-season games of his career. Entering this offseason, the 28-year-old appeared to be a potential salary cap casualty for Cleveland, with his reworked contract ensuring that he’ll remain with the Browns for at least one more season.
The #Browns and star RB Nick Chubb have agreed on a reworked contract for 2024 to lower his base of $11.775M, sources tell me and @TomPelissero, with a chance to earn it back in incentives.

At this point, it’s too early to tell when Chubb might be ready to make a potential return to the playing field. While he remains sidelined, Cleveland will rely on a backfield that currently includes Jerome Ford, Nyheim Hines and D’Onta Foreman.
