During the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl LVIII showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs back in February, Niners superstar running back Christian McCaffrey made a rare and costly mistake when he fumbled the ball in the red zone of the team’s opening drive, resulting in a turnover. And it sounds like he’s still cut up about the fumble.
During a recent press conference, San Francisco 49ers running backs coach Bobby Turner revealed the costly fumble still weighs “heavy” on the mind of Christian McCaffrey.
“I talked to him at the same time it happened when he came off the football field because you have to,” Turner said according to NBC Sports. “You have to be able to let it go, but it’s one of those things you take personally because it’s very important to him. The ball is everything. He is carrying this whole organization — his family, my family. He is carrying that football. It’s heavy.”
Obviously, it’s pretty brutal news that McCaffrey is still carrying the weight of that mistake months later, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Man, that fumble was rough.

Christian McCaffrey's costly fumble in Super Bowl still weighs 'heavy' on 49ers' star, coach says: The majority of 49ers players and coaches have likely moved on from February's overtime Super Bowl loss, but a key in-game mistake is not quite as easily… https://t.co/7SXDVdwbcI pic.twitter.com/JDzZtiRKY5

Obviously, the best thing McCaffrey can do is simply let it go and work on preparing for the upcoming season. But that’s obviously not easy.
