Taylor Swift, a guest of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce Syndication: USA TODAY

When Taylor Swift was attending Kansas City Chiefs games with regularity, the team was winning big, and tight end Travis Kelce was scoring touchdowns.

Now that the popstar has stopped attending Chiefs games, including Sunday’s contest in Frankfurt, Germany, Kansas City, and its star player haven’t been performing quite as well.

Kelce had just three catches on four targets for 14 yards in KC’s 21-14 win over the Miami Dolphins in Germany. That comes a week after Kelce garnered just 58 yards on six receptions in the team’s stunning loss to the Denver Broncos.

That’s a far cry from the numbers he had been putting up when Swift was in attendance and previous weeks. He either garnered 100 receiving yards or scored a touchdown in every game except one before the last two weekends.

Kelce’s cold streak has some wondering if the strain of the very public relationship might be taking its toll on the NFL star.

It’s probably coincidental, but if the Chiefs want any chance to get back to the Super Bowl, they’re going to need Kelce to produce. And if his production continues to fade during the season, it’s easy to draw a line between his relationship with Swift and his plummeting stats. That’s going to make Kansas City fans turn on the pop star even more.

If nothing else, it might lead Chiefs fans to urge Swift to start coming to games once again.
