On paper, the Kansas City Chiefs are in a great position to roll through the AFC yet again this season and make it to Super Bowl LIX. However, when you take a deeper look, there are perhaps areas of concern that suggest this won’t be the case.

The Chiefs currently sit at 12-1 on the season, which is good for a No. 1 seed in the AFC. This of course means that if this holds up, the AFC playoffs will run through Arrowhead Stadium.

On the other hand, the Chiefs haven’t been all that impressive whatsoever in the way they have won a large portion of their games.

Of their 12 wins on the year, the Chiefs have won by more than one score just twice. And in their last seven games, the Chiefs have failed to cover the spread in every game.

This is concerning because, at some point, these high-leverage moments in close games eventually won’t go the Chiefs way unless they are just the luckiest team in NFL history.

It’s also concerning because there has been no team in NFL history that has ever won a Super Bowl in the same year they have failed to cover in six straight games at any point in the season.

Naturally, fans had quite the reaction to this fact, with many expecting the Chiefs’ string of good luck to come to an end in the postseason.

“This is gonna make em mad but preach,” one fan wrote on X.

“Good teams win, great teams cover,” another wrote.

“Divisional Round Loss. Book it,” wrote another fan.

Obviously, trends like this are made to be broken eventually. So this obviously doesn’t mean that the Chiefs have no chance of winning a third straight Super Bowl.

However, it does show that the Chiefs are perhaps flying too close to the sun when it comes to letting teams hang around in games. So it will be interesting to see if the Chiefs can pull away from more teams down the stretch of the regular season.
