Things have not exactly gone well for the Chicago Bears and rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, and it sounds like NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks the team is considering benching the young star quarterback.
The Bears suffered their third consecutive loss over the weekend when they fell to the New England Patriots. The team has struggled mightily on the offensive side of the football recently, failing to even score a touchdown the past two weeks.
And it sounds like one prominent NFL insider expects the team to make a change, that could include benching Caleb Williams.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee show on Monday afternoon, Adam Schefter said that he believes there will be “some sort of change” on the offensive side of the football
“Is that changing the play-caller? Is that changing the quarterback and benching Caleb William for Tyson Bagent?” Schefter asked.
“I think all these things are being discussed in the building today, and ultimately the organization has to figure out what is the best course of action for this franchise moving forward,” he continued.
Schefter pointed out that a decision to bench Williams could serve to protect him for the future, as well.
The Bears offensive line has not exactly been reliable at protecting the quarterback this season, giving up 38 sacks – the second most in the entire league.
Of course, Williams has not been particularly dominant, either. He has completed just 60.5 percent of his passes this season, which is the worst completion percentage of any quarterback who has played the majority of the season and has not been benched.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Bears do indeed decide to make a change at quarterback.
