Former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the CFL over the past several years, leading the T0ronto Argonauts to a Grey Cup championship in 2022 before falling just short last year. But as he tried to lead his team to yet another appearance in the league’s championship game, he suffered a gruesome injury that was caught on camera.
During the third quarter of Saturday’s East Division championship game against the Montreal Alouettes, Chad Kelly went down with one of the most gruesome leg injuries ever caught on camera.
In a video shared by sports journalist Howard Berger, Kelly can be seen holding his leg as it dangled loosely in his hands while his teammates fell to the ground in anguish.
WARNING: This is difficult to watch. #Argos quarterback Chad Kelly essentially trying to hold his right leg together. Listen to the anguish from the offensive lineman after he looks at Kelly. Sad. #CFL #TSN #GreyCup #Leafs pic.twitter.com/po1aVEIRtU

“WARNING: This is difficult to watch. #Argos quarterback Chad Kelly essentially trying to hold his right leg together. Listen to the anguish from the offensive lineman after he looks at Kelly. Sad,” Berger said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Needless to say, the injury led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“I can’t believe he was that calm unless he was in straight shock,” one fan wrote on X.
“Prayers for Chad. That’s gruesome,” another fan added.
“Wow PRAYERS out to Chad Kelly and his family — I hope you have a safe, speedy and successful recovery,” another fan said.
“It’s like a scene from Saving Private Ryan,” someone else commented.
“My only question is why did it take so long for medical staff to get on the field and help the man?” another person added.
“That’s gnarly. So sad,” someone else added.
The Argonauts were able to hang on and win the game by a final score of 30-28 after leading 24-16 when he left the game.
