Peyton Manning signs with the Denver Broncos
Although the Broncos no. 18 was retired to honor Frank Tripucka, Tripucka gave Manning permission to wear it, presumably after hours upon hours of begging from John Elway. Despite concerns over Manning’s arm strength, Manning would complete 68.6% of his passes, throw for 4,659 yards and 37 touchdowns in his return season to NFL football. Unsurprisingly, Manning won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award for his efforts.
