Cameron Heyward has played his entire 14-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has established himself as a legitimate legend for the organization, earning six Pro Bowl nodes and three first-team All-Pro honors as well as the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award last year. But in a shocking turn of events, it sounds like there is a chance he could ultimately leave the team.
For the first time in his entire career with the Steelers, Cameron Heyward is not attending the team’s voluntary offseason workouts. And during the most recent episode of his Not Just Football podcast, he confirmed that his absence from voluntary workouts is due to a contract dispute and that while he would obviously like to remain a Steeler for the rest of his career, his status is up in the air.
“Have always attended these, but at this time it’s just contract negotiations, and I want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, but we’ll see what happens,” Heyward said according to Pro Football Talk. “I’m training hard. It’s nothing I’m not doing on and off the field. I’m doing everything possible, and we’ll get there when we get there.”
Obviously, this is pretty significant for the Steelers as Heyward has been the clear-cut leader of the defense for a long time. It would be a pretty shocking turn of events if he was not with the team in the future.
