Former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar defensive back Cooper DeJean, who was just selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the NFL Draft, got a lot of criticism this week when he claimed he could beat Caitlin Clark in basketball. But he’s standing by his comments.
This week, Cooper DeJean joined Kay Adams on her show Up and Adams where he made it clear that he respects Caitlin Clark and everything she did for the Iowa Hawkeyes. However, he still thinks he could beat her in basketball.
“I mean, I was really just answering the question, but obviously, you know, Caitlin’s a special player,” DeJean said. “She’s done so much for women’s basketball as well and the University of Iowa in general. So I’ve had nothing but respect for her. She took a shot back at me after she texted me and she said didn’t think that I could beat her. I’ll let her say that but yeah, I mean, I think it’d be fun though if we got to play each other.”
Given that Clark responded to DeJean, Adams wanted to know when the two could play to settle this debate once and for all. While DeJean is willing, he understands that Clark is bit busy right now as she prepares for the upcoming WNBA season.
“I don’t know. She’s pretty busy right now,” DeJean responded. “So I don’t know. We’ll get to that.”
We’ll have to see if it happens.
