It looks like the Bucs are looking to satisfy that need for speed by adding Olympian Jeff Demps to their active roster.
In an effort to spice up the run game, the Buccaneers will likely use Demps as a backup running back and possible kick returner. If this guy gets separation, see ya later, he gone.
A four year tailback (and Tebowmate) at Florida, Demps went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft because he elected to forgo the combine in order to participate in the 2012 London Olympics. While there, he was part of the USA’s 4×100 m relay team that silver medaled.
Couldn’t hurt having him, though. The Buccaneers have a grand total of three kickoff + punt returns over the past three seasons.
Demps was signed to a three-year deal by the Patriots last season but was traded to the Bucs for LeGarrette Blount and a seventh round pick in April of this year.
