After a flurry of trade rumors throughout the offseason, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly met with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk this week where they informed him that he will not be traded this offseason, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a new contract is coming his way anytime soon, either.
During a recent appearance on The Pivot, Brandon Aiyuk opened up about his contract talks with the San Francisco 49ers in which he admitted that while there have been times when it feels like he and the team are “super close” on a potential deal, right now they are “pretty far apart.”
“Throughout this process, there have been times when we’re super close,” Aiyuk said according to Pro Football Talk. “I’m telling my agent ‘Let me get my suit ready, I’ve got to get it back to the Bay. I got to get right to sign that contract.’ There’s days and times, like in the past month or so, where you could say we’re pretty far apart.”
Needless to say, this is not great news for Aiyuk or the 49ers as they try to lock him up for the future after he posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons the past two years.
