It’s been an offseason full of speculation regarding the future of All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk with the San Francisco 49ers, and it sounds like that situation has taken a pretty significant turn.
According to a report from league insider Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers after the two sides have failed to come to terms on a contract extension.
“Source: #49ers All-Pro WR Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade after an offseason of unsuccessful attempts to reach an extension.
Despite a recent meeting, the Niners havenβt been willing to engage in negotiations since May so Aiyuk has respectfully asked out,” Garafolo said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Needless to say, this is a pretty terrible situation for the Niners as Aiyuk was one of the team’s most productive players on offense last season and a big reason why the team was able to reach the Super Bowl. Obviously, the news led to a lot of reactions on social media.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the Niners address this brutal situation this offseason.
