Bill Simmons went off against Roger Goodell for his handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident.
On a recent B.S. Report, Simmons flat-out called Roger Goodell a liar due to Goodell’s steadfast denials that the league’s office had an idea of what was on the Ray Rice elevator tape.
“Goodell, if he didn’t know what was on that tape, he’s a liar. I’m just saying it. He is lying. If you put him up on a lie detector test, that guy would fail. For all these people to pretend they didn’t know is such [expletive] [expletive]. It really is, it’s such [expletive] [expletive]. For him to go into that press conference and pretend otherwise — I was so insulted.”
Simmons even called out his employer ESPN, saying that if he got any complaints from the network for his opinions on Goodell, he’d make them public.
“I really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says I’m in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell, because if one person says that to me, I’m going public. You leave me alone. The commissioner’s a liar and I get to talk about that on my podcast. Thank you.”
Simmons has been suspended from his Twitter by ESPN before, but that was for criticizing ESPN, not the NFL. Considering that ESPN has actually done real hard-hitting reporting on the Ray Rice case, it seems unlikely that the network will take action against Simmons for speaking his mind on Roger Goodell. After all, it’s not like his opinion on Goodell is that outrageous considering the disastrous PR that the league has suffered over the past couple of weeks.
