There has been a lot of speculation that Sunday afternoon’s game between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets was the final game that head coach Bill Belichick would ever coach with the Patriots. But he sure didn’t want to get into that during his Monday press conference.
During his press conference early Monday morning, Bill Belichick sent a pretty clear message to anyone who wanted to speculate about his future with the team, pointing out that he is still under contract with the team and that he’s simply going to operate as he normally does at the end of a season.
“I’m under contract. I’m going to do what I always do,” Belichick said according to Pro Football Talk. “As far as any decisions or direction for next year, way too early for that.”
Belichick said he expects “a series of meetings” with team owner Robert Kraft after the season, as typically happens, and said that he would be open to any changes the team wants to make heading into next season.
“I’m for whatever we collectively decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team,” Belichick said. “I’m here to work to help our team every day. That’s what I’m going to do.”
It’s clear that Belichick is remaining loyal to the Patriots as long as they’ll have him. We’ll see how this all plays out.
