Longtime New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is widely considered one of the best and most accomplished head coaches in the history of the NFL after leading the team to an unprecedented six Super Bowl championships. But unfortunately for him, that proven track record is not exactly helping him as he seeks a new job.
As Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports points out, there have been several teams in need of a new coach this offseason, but only one of those teams has seemed to show even the slightest bit of interest in pursuing Bill Belichick as their next head coach.
“Seven NFL teams (not including New England) had or still have an opening for a head coach: Atlanta, Carolina, Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle, Tennessee and Washington. At least five more had to have had some kind of serious discussion about making a move: Chicago, Dallas, both New York teams and Philadelphia,” Wetzel wrote for Yahoo Sports.
“Thus far, only one — Atlanta — has bothered to formally interview arguably the greatest and most accomplished coach in NFL history.”
Wetzel suggested a few reasons why this might be the case – Belichick’s old age, his recent struggles, and his lack of success without Tom Brady. Whatever it may be, it’s certainly a pretty brutal situation for Belichick to be one of the best coaches in league history and still now get many opportunities.
