Since entering the NFL, Ja’Marr Chase has established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the league.

So it’s hardly a surprise that the Cincinnati Bengals have already opened up negotiations with the three-time Pro Bowl selection on a potential long-term deal.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the start of training camp, Bengals owner Mike Brown was asked about Chase, who is eligible for a contract extension entering his fourth-year in the league. And according to Brown, the team is already in the process of trying to sign the LSU product to a long-term deal.

“We are going to bend over backwards to make it happen. I can’t tell you when it’s going to get done,’ Brown said, according to WLWT’s Olivia Ray. “The reel has been cast.”

While it’s not necessarily surprising the Bengals would attempt to sign Chase to an extension, it’s worth noting that Cincinnati failed to secure wide receiver Tee Higgins to a long-term deal before his rookie contract expired following the 2023 campaign. As a result, the Clemson product will play the 2024 season on the franchise tag and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

The Bengals, however, did sign quarterback Joe Burrow — who played with Chase at LSU — to a five-year, $275 million contract ahead of the 2023 campaign. With Justin Jefferson and A.J. Brown having recently signed new contracts, one would presume Chase will be vying to become one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL.
