The Detroit Lions have been the feel-good story of the NFL this season. After decades of failing to get over the hump, this year saw the Lions win the NFC North for the second consecutive year and secure the number one seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history.
The Lions’ success is thanks in large part to their electric offense, which allowed Detroit to continue playing winning football despite an unfathomable amount of injuries sustained on the defensive side of the ball.
However, all that success has made offensive coordinator Ben Johnson highly targeted by other teams to become a head coach in the current cycle and according to one prominent league insider, Johnson is taking the official steps toward finding his new home in the league.
“Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is scheduled to interview Friday for the Patriots head coaching job,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This seems like something that should have to wait until after playoffs are finished,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Why do I keep hearing everywhere that they cannot interview people from teams until after the divisional round clearly that’s not true,” one fan added.
“don’t worry he won’t even need to log onto Zoom after tomorrow when Vrabel is announced as their HC lol,” another fan added.
“Seems about time people on the Cambpell staff get their opportunities. The way they have changed the culture and feel around the Lions is awesome, and that is what a lot of other teams really need in 2025,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see where Johnson ends up even if it isn’t in New England.
