Soldier Field is known for its horrible, horrible playing surface. Today, during the Bears and Vikings game, the field was in great shape. Instead, the clock was the problem. The Bears and Vikings played most of the second half without the game clock working. Officials on the field kept track of the time.
So, when the Vikings got the ball with just over two minutes remaining in the game — down by eight and with no timeouts — they had no idea how much time was left in the game as they marched down the field. Before every play, CBS would show viewers how much time was left, but I don’t think Teddy Bridgewater had access to a television.
The Vikings’ comeback bid ended with an interception in the end zone and the Bears won. Soldier Field, however, lost.
UPDATE: It turns out Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer wasn’t too pleased with the clock situation.
