The Baltimore Ravens don’t have much concern at the top of the depth chart at quarterback as reigning MVP Lamar Jackson will be returning for the team next season. But that didn’t stop the team from adding a young quarterback in the NFL Draft – though it sounds like he’ll be taking the next season just to grow and learn.
The Baltimore Ravens selected former NC State quarterback Devin Leary in the fifth round of the NFL Draft over the weekend, and Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta made it clear that the plan is for Leary to be the team’s third-string quarterback behind starter Lamar Jackson and backup Josh Johnson.
“Josh will be the backup quarterback, and I think Devin will develop,” DeCosta said according to Dustin Cox of USA Today. “He’ll probably be the third quarterback this year in some way or fashion and grow into the job as we go.”
It’s not clear where exactly this leaves Malik Cunningham after he joined the team last year. Cunningham has worked out at both quarterback and wide receiver throughout his NFL career and it’s not yet clear where he will be lining up for the team this upcoming season.
