The Atlanta Falcons are currently facing an NFL investigation into a potential tampering violation regarding their pursuit of quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason, and it sounds like one NFL expert thinks the Falcons are quite clearly guilty.
During a recent appearance on “What the Football w/Suzy Shuster & Amy Trask,” Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk claimed that the team’s pursuit of Kirk Cousins was “the most blatant cases of tampering” that he has ever seen in his 23 years covering the league.
“The Falcons pursuit of Kirk Cousins, to me, doing this 23 years, it’s the most blatant case of tampering I’ve ever seen,” Florio said. “Where Kirk Cousins at his introductory press conference admits he spoke to, and possibly met with, he might have blurted it out, that he met with the team’s head athletic trainer during the 52-hour negotiating window where you’re not supposed to talk to the player at all.”
If the league does determine that the Falcons were guilty of tampering in this case, there is a chance that they could be stripped of draft picks and hit with fines.
We’ll have to see what the NFL determines, but it’s pretty clear that Florio thinks they’re guilty.
