The Arizona Cardinals have been pretty vocal this offseason about their commitment to starting quarterback Kyler Murray, even affirming on social media that he was the team’s franchise quarterback. And now, they’re putting their money where their mouth is.
As Albert Breer of SI.com points out, by keeping Kyler Murray on the roster this weekend, the Arizona Cardinals have made a pretty significant financial commitment to Murray remaining with the team not just this season, but the 2025 season, too.
“By carrying Murray on the roster through the weekend, they locked in a $29.9 million guarantee for him for 2025. Now, it’s not like they could’ve just cut him without penalty (not that they’d considered it) over the last couple of weeks, since his $35.3 million for this coming season is already locked in. But if GM Monti Ossenfort and coach Jonathan Gannon had any intention on bailing, doing it sooner would’ve been better than later,” Breer wrote for SI.com on Monday morning.
Obviously, this is an indication that the team is content with Murray serving as their full-time starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, even if there was a time when it looked like the team could be ready to move on from him.
