Around this time last year, there was a lot of speculation that Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid could be headed toward retirement. But Reid is not allowing that same conversation to fester this year.
On Monday night, Kansas City Chiefs team owner Clark Hunt made it very clear that he expects Andy Reid to return to the team next season regardless of the result of Super Bowl LIX.
“I know for a fact he’ll be back next season,” Hunt said according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
Reid was quick to confirm the news himself in his own press conference.
“Yes, I’ll be back,” Reid said Tuesday according to Pro Football Talk.
Reid could have a chance to become the winningest coach in the history of the league or surpass Bill Belichick in terms of Super Bowl titles, but he claims that’s not what is motivating him to continue coaching.
“That’s not part of it,” Reid said. “I just enjoy teaching. I don’t get caught up much in the stats or the records. I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football, the game. You can’t put in the hours we do and not enjoy it. I love the game.”
Regardless of the reason, the Chiefs will be glad to have him back.
