Oftentimes, when a player is seeking a new contract, they opt to hold out from training camp as a form of leverage against their team. In a surprising twist, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara isn’t taking that approach. In fact, he seems to think that would be a “stupid” option.
When a player holds out from training camp, they are subject to some pretty hefty fines. As a result, Alvin Kamara has decided that he will not be holding out from training camp because he doesn’t want to be fined considering he is trying to make more money from the team, not give away money in the form of fines.
“I ain’t stupid,” Kamara said. “I ain’t going to give the money up. I’m trying to get some money. . . . I’d be a fool to spite my teammates because of a dispute I’m having with upstairs. I wouldn’t even call it a dispute, we’re having conversations.”
These comments come after Kamara abruptly left the team’s minicamp last month after contract talks did not progress the way he wanted.
Clearly, Kamara is committed to helping prepare for the upcoming season even if he does not receive a new contract with the team.
