Some players would never throw a teammate under the bus, regardless of circumstances, but some players would gladly call out a teammate if they blew the game. Bengals cornerback Adam Jones is the latter.
Following a devastating 37-37 tie to the Carolina Panthers at home, the flashy Jones spoke with NFL.com and offered the following emotionally-charged comments:
We should’ve f****** won the game….We was in perfect position to win the game, two seconds left on the clock, we’ve got to win the game. Everybody in here gets paid to do a job and that’s what everybody needs to do.
Jones was immediately asked if he was referencing kicker Mike Nugent, who missed a 36-yard field goal as time expired in overtime. While the comments were obvious, he tried to side-step them with a general answer:
I didn’t say that, but I said everybody gets paid to do a job. So perform and do your job, that’s all I’m saying.
While Nugent’s horrendous blunder cost them a 4-1 record, was it wise for the veteran DB, one that has routinely hurt his teams with off-the-field incidents, to put the kicker on blast?
