Aaron Rodgers is currently still the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, but he is widely expected to be released this offseason, and one prominent NFL insider seems to think that the Pittsburgh Steelers would be a good fit for him.

The Steelers signed both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields during the offseason, both of whom have started at quarterback for the team this season. However, they are on just one-year contracts.

That means if they are going to be back with the team next season, they would have to sign a new contract. And there’s a chance the Steelers aren’t interested in that.

The Steelers benched Fields with Wilson midway through the season – likely ending the possibility of Fields’ return next season – and Wilson has played very poorly down the stretch, turning the ball over four times in three games, which contributed to the team’s three consecutive losses.

As NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggests, there’s a real chance the team could opt not to bring Wilson back if they don’t have success during the postseason.

“Much of it depends on what happens in the postseason. If the Steelers win a playoff game for the first time since the 2016 season, maybe Wilson returns. If they once again go one and done, maybe Wilson will be one and done, too,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.

If the Steelers do decide to go in a different direction, Florio suggested that Aaron Rodgers would be a good fit.

“If/when Rodgers is released by the Jets, why wouldn’t the Steelers consider adding him? Several years ago, Rodgers and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin exchanged playful glances. That made Rodgers a consideration for the Steelers when he left Green Bay,” Florio wrote.

“For a one-year experiment, the Steelers could do worse. Rodgers can still throw it, and his arm is going nowhere. Some would be concerned he might be a pain in the butt. And maybe he would be,” Florio continued.

It’s certainly an interesting possibility. We’ll have to see how it plays out.
